European Academy of Chiropractic (EAC)
The European Academy of Chiropractic is a sub-committee of the ECU. It is concerned with the promotion and facilitation of a graduate educational programme (GEP) and continuing professional development (CPD) for chiropractors.
The EAC organises a meeting to promote the Graduate Education Programme at the annual convention. This is a dedicated programme to help national chiropractic associations to develop a formal system of support for newly-qualified chiropractors. The conceptual framework for the GEP programme was approved by the ECU General Council in 2011.
The EAC also accredits academic CPD events for the ECU by awarding points for attendance. One point equates to one hour of approved postgraduate learning.
With its partners Chiropractic Australia (CA), the EAC, the Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC), and the Chiropractic Knowledge Hub (Kiropraktorernes Videnscenter) the EAC co-owns the Chiropractic and Manual Therapies journal. This is an online, open access indexed scientific journal with the highest impact factor of all chiropractic journals in the world and features research articles, commentaries and debate articles.
Further collaboration has occurred with the new GEN-C programme which is a Global Education Network for Chiropractors and represents a partnership between the European Chiropractors Union (via the European Academy of Chiropractic), Chiropractic Australia and the Royal College of Chiropractors. All three organizations have a long history of providing high quality continuing professional development to the chiropractic profession in their local regions. The precedent for working together was established with the partnership formed to produce the leading chiropractic journal Chiropractic and Manual Therapies.
By combining resources, the GEN-C online platform enables the production of high-quality educational programs that will assist clinicians in improving patient care and clinical outcomes.
The EAC has developed a number of Special Interest Groups (SiGs) for those chiropractors wishing to further their knowledge in a particular area of study. There are currently five SIGs: Clinical, Sports, Paediatrics, Neurology and Research.
All chiropractors who are members of ECU Member National Associations and all ECU Individual Members are automatically members of the EAC, as part of their ECU membership.
Members of the ECU can apply to become a Fellow, in order to do so you will need to be a member of the ECU, set up an on-line profile you will then be able to apply for membership. Evidence of advanced professional learning to Masters level or equivalent will be required.
The EAC is responsible for the promotion and development of research and researchers in Europe.
