Course Description

This small-group seminar will present and discuss the integration of ESWT to Manual Medicine as a modality for helping to manage common musculoskeletal disorders. As well as discussing the evidence for ESWT in treating common tendinopathies and plantar fasciopathy, we will look at how it is optimally integrated with manual and exercise interventions to optimise its efficacy. There will be a strong practical element to enable the delegate to gain experience in the manual skills of applying ESWT.

Aims

  • To provide a background to the use of ESWT in Manual Medicine
  • To provide clear demonstrations of a range of the most common applications of ESWT
  • To gain hands-on experience of applying ESWT

Objectives

  • To understand the appropriate context for integrating ESWT to clinical practice and recognize contra-indications to ESWT.
  • To be able to select and adjust settings and achieve basic manual skills in the application of ESWT.
  • To understand how ESWT can be integrated to the broader clinical management of a variety of MSK conditions including prescribing appropriate complimentary exercises.

Learning Outcomes

  • On completion of the seminar the attendees should be able to understand the use of ESWT in the context of managing MSK conditions and confidently apply this therapeutic technique.
