Webinar Dr. CARLOS GEVERS MONTORO, D.C.
Carlos will present the lecture How Does the Chiropractic Adjustment Work? Latest
Research on the Neurophysiological Mechanisms of the Chiropractic Spinal Adjustment. In this webinar, he
will synthesize the latest research on how high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) chiropractic structural
adjustments affect the nervous system. He will walk through the current understanding of
neurophysiological responses, from the activation of peripheral receptors, to changes in the spinal cord,
and finally cerebral mechanisms. Special emphasis will be placed on how these processes may mediate the
pain-relieving effects that many patients seek when consulting a chiropractor.
CARLOS GEVERS MONTORO Carlos Gevers Montoro is a second-generation
chiropractor. He graduated from Life Chiropractic College West in 2003 as
Valedictorian and Clinical Excellence Citation. After practicing for a few years in
Spain and France, he was instrumental in the opening of the Madrid College of
Chiropractic (MCC), where he lectured and held various positions for 16 years. In
parallel, he served for seven years as the President of the Spanish Chiropractic
Association.
In 2018, he shifted gears and completed a PhD in Neurosciences at the University of
Montreal, under the supervision of Prof. Mathieu Piché. His research and
publications focus primarily on the mechanisms of chiropractic spinal manipulation, particularly as they
relate to central sensitization and neuroinflammation—two phenomena strongly implicated in the
development of chronic pain syndromes and related conditions.
Carlos is currently a postdoctoral fellow studying pain neuroscience at McGill University (Montreal) and a
lecturer in the chiropractic department at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. Since 2024, he has
also served on the Board of Directors of the European Chiropractors’ Union.
