Course Description

Course description

Welcome to a new system designed to find causality for patient diagnoses/symptoms and a corrective strategy to target every movement aberration you encounter.

Integrated Assessment (IA) provides a comprehensive, easily navigable and unified approach for both training and therapy staff, allowing them to assess human movement and joint function systematically. Within the IA you will learn to skillfully quantify and classify movement aberrations and find the mechanism for atraumatic/overuse injuries. IA is accompanied by the Integrated Patterning (IP) course, which teaches focused interventions for all of the movement issues you uncover in the IA.

You will learn how to confidently and systematically assesses the joints of the upper limbs, lower limbs, and spine in all three planes of cardinal motion (sagittal, coronal, and transverse/rotation), both individually and in the context of how they perform together, which is vitally important since our patients do not move in isolation. The IP will teach you how to address every single movement aberration identified in the IA. This is an entirely plug-and-play system; anything you identify in the IA has a corresponding exercise in IP. You can expect targeted and hyper-effective mobility, movement competency and movement capacity strategies/exercises to establish and maintain control of single joints in every plane, in addition to exercises which build competent movement between neighbouring regions and then the entire body so that the changes we make in our patients and athletes are noticeable and useable in their sport or vocational pursuits.

2 days, 2 courses (IA and IP)

IA (Integrated Assessment):

  • Why do we need to assess movement (as in what does it give us that an orthopedic exam/palpation/etc does not)
  • Specificity and nature of movement deficits
  • Primer on research on movement assessment
  • Regional interdependence/dynamic systems theory
  • Movement quality and single loop feedback control
  • Overload, rate of force, and tissue injury
  • Organisation of the IA
  • Scoring and utilising the IA

IP (Integrated Patterning):

  • Why do we need to treat movement (as in why should we be focusing on facilitating movement patterns versus generic single joint exercises)
  • The science of mechanotherapy (what happens when you perform treatment on someone)
  • Organization of the IP
  • Interventions used in IP
  • Irradiation and independent articular control
  • Dose response in the context of neurological and physiological adaptation
  • How to utilize IP
  • Using the IA and IP together to guide treatment
