Course Description
Webinar Outline
“What’s the matter with me?” to “what matters to me?” is the most important, yet most challenging, shift people living with chronic pain go through. This is where we can use values-based
rehabilitation for persistent pain. During this webinar, Mahin will cover the different pain mechanisms (nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic) that regularly present as chronic pain, how to recognise the difference between these, and how to adapt your management accordingly. Unfortunately, still to this day, our pain management approaches follow a conventional biomedical model aimed at treating
nociceptive and neuropathic pain. It is clear that these approaches have limited value in persistent pain, particularly if this pain is predominantly nociplastic in nature. Join us for this 1-hour webinar where Mahin will cover how to elicit your patient’s/client’s values and how to use these to form a rehabilitation plan.
Learning outcomes
- To understand different pain mechanisms, how they present and how our treatments may differ for the different pain types.
- To identify our role as musculoskeletal professionals in helping people live well with chronic/persistent pain, using a values-based approach.
- To be able to identify, define and alter management appropriately to individuals with different presenting pain mechanisms.
- To be able to apply principles of exposure and grading in relation to physical activity management for the purpose of values-based function.

aims to increase people’s awareness of chronic pain and the different ways to manage it.
