This webinar will focus on sports injuries in paediatric patients. These are significantly different from sports injuries in adults as the musculoskeletal system is growing and developing. For some athletes, these physical injuries can evolve and affect their psychological health.
Learning Outcomes
• Understand paediatric musculoskeletal growth and development; particularly which structures are susceptible to injury when overloaded
• Understand the impact of overtraining on the developing athlete
• Understanding concussion in the paediatric patient and how to best evaluate and manage it
• Management of the paediatric patient with musculoskeletal injury
• Rehabilitation concepts in paediatrics
Speaker – Sue Weber FRCC (Paeds)
Sue graduated valedictorian from Western States Chiropractic College (now UWS), Portland, Oregon in 1988. She is a family practitioner with over 30 years of clinical experience specialising in the treatment of infants, children and the pregnant patient. She completed the Diplomate in Paediatrics and the Masters in Chiropractic Paediatrics at AECC/Bournemouth University in 2008. Sue was selected to contribute to establishing international paediatric guidelines for the profession with a consensus group formed by the FCER. She is the chairperson and faculty member of the Paediatric special interest group within the EAC and is on the faculty of the Royal College of Chiropractic. Besides clinical practice, Sue lectures internationally for the post-graduate community. From her extensive education and clinical experience, she composed a comprehensive education in Paediatrics for the Swedish National Chiropractic Association (LKR). Sue was awarded Chiropractor of the Year 2015 for promoting the profession by her work developing the educational program and formulating guidelines for the Paediatric patient. In 2016 Sue was chosen as an expert in Paediatrics to review research for the safety and efficacy of chiropractic care of the infant
with colic for the Stockholm Council on Health Technology Assessment. She has published for and been selected by JMPT as a peer reviewer within paediatrics.
