This webinar will cover the aetiology and assessment of persistent pain, fibromyalgia diagnosis and management and the NICE Guideline NG193 on Chronic Pain (primary & secondary).

Speaker: Chris Barker

Chris is the clinical lead of a multidisciplinary community based pain service for Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust. He is also acting clinical lead and locum consultant in Wirral University Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust. Following his graduation in 1994, from University College Hospital, London, Chris spent the first few years of his medical career in general medicine, neurology and anaesthesia. He became interested in chronic pain during his initial training in anaesthesia and has been a practicing pain physician for the last 20 years. In 2006, as a GP, he completed the Royal College of Anaesthetists’
Advanced Training in Pain Medicine at the Walton Centre for Neurology & Neurosurgery. Chris has been involved in service design, bids & implementation, and delivery of community and secondary care pain services both in the northwest and nationally. He is actively involved in pain research, national guideline development, and European standards for pain. He advises nationally on the design and delivery
of community pain services, represents the RCGP for pain, and is a member of the NICE Persistent Pain Guideline Committee. He has recently held the post of Clinical Director for Long-Covid across Cheshire and
Mersey Away from his work, Chris enjoys running, cycling, playing drums or guitar and annoying his teenage children.
