Laurence is a Fellow, former President and current member of the executive committee of the SMS, which is dedicated to improving the saddlery trade, helping to develop saddlery and saddle fitting. He is the current chairman of the south west region of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers and, in 2005, was granted the Freedom of the City of London in acknowledgement of his services to the trade.
