Severn Faculty CPD event:  Musculoskeletal MRI – a Basic Overview

Date: Wednesday 26th April 2017

Venue: Somerset Alliance MRI Unit, Marsh Lane, Huntworth Gate, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 6LQ

Event outline:

An introduction and overview of musculoskeletal MRI with Dr Guru Karnati and Dr SubbaRao Chaganti. This will consist of two sessions:

  • An introduction to MRI, including anatomy and pathology
  • An interactive case discussion

This event also gives delegates an opportunity to view the facilities at Somerset Alliance MRI Unit

Speakers: Dr Guru Karnati is a consultant radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal imaging and sports injuries. He is the lead of musculoskeletal imaging at the Musgrove Park Hospital and has practicing privileges with Taunton Nuffield Hospital, Alliance Medical, Medica Reporting and West Somerset Radiology. He reports a wide range of Musculoskeletal CT and MRI examinations and performs ultrasound scans.

Dr SubbaRao Chaganti is a consultant diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiologist specialising in all aspects of musculoskeletal and sports imaging. He completed a MSK radiology fellowship at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, a bone tumour and regional spinal centre. He holds a postgraduate certificate in Sport and Exercise Medicine from Cardiff Metropolitan University and currently studying for a diploma. He has special interest in sports imaging and spinal intervention.

Learning Outcomes include:

  • An understanding of basic MRI physics and common sequences.
  • Better knowledge of relevant MRI anatomy of the spine and peripheral joints.
  • Familiarity with some of the common pathologies of the spine
  • An understanding of referral guidelines and how to make best use of imaging.
  • A comprehension of relevant knowledge on MRI safety.
