Yorkshire Faculty CPD Event The Gait Cycle – Associating Injury with Function Date: Wednesday 13th September Venue: Holiday Inn Leeds Wakefield, Queens Drive, Ossett, Wakefield, WF5 9BE Event Outline: Many of our patients’ musculoskeletal injuries are related to the gait cycle. Knowing the timing of muscle action during gait can greatly enhance the understanding of common MSK problems. This seminar will look at the walking gait cycle and how muscles respond to joint moments created by ground reaction forces. The importance of the foot as a sagittal plane facilitator, and its effects on the kinetic chain, will be discussed with examples of how improving this can influence the trunk as well as the leg Speakers: Lee Short and Bob Longworth from ‘Podiatry Clinics (Yorkshire) Ltd’ have over 50 years of Podiatry experience between them. They specialise in MSK Podiatry working extensively with rehab techniques as well as more traditional Podiatry tools such as insoles Lee Short worked for the NHS for 20 years and has worked for the M.O.D rehabilitation unit at Catterick. He continues to provide specialist services to injured military recruits. Bob Longworth worked for the NHS for 30 years and was clinical lead for the Foot and Ankle Pathway at the Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust before leaving last year. He has undertaken post-graduate modules in Rheumatology and Pharmacology and has lectured at national and international conferences. In 2015 he won an NHS achievement award for ‘Excellence in Education and Research’. Learning outcomes include:
