Course Description
Neurodegeneration is a complex multifactorial process that causes neuronal death in brain and spinal cord, resulting in brain and spinal cord damage and dysfunction. Growing evidence indicates that there is a considerable overlap in risk factors, modular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in neurotraumatic, neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders.
In this module, we will cover:
• Excitotoxicity;
• Oxidative stress;
• Neuroinflammation;
• Neurotraumatic diseases: TBI, spinal cord injury;
• Neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, ALS
• Neuropsychiatric disorders: depression, schizophrenia, autism, attention-deficit disorders, dementia…
•Interesting ways to combat early degeneration via the physical, chemical and cognitive pillars of health;
•Practical implementation in the practice setting and patient guidance;
•Key elements to incorporate or avoid with aging patients;
