Course Description

This module forms a self-contained excerpt of the Royal College of Chiropractors’ Diploma in Pain Management (DPM). In this module, Pat Partington explains the therapeutic alliance and its direct impact on patients’ health. Factors influencing how we think and make decisions are reviewed with examples of direct and indirect approaches to modifying the health choices patients may make.

Learning Outcomes:

1.) Understand the nature and essential components of a good therapeutic alliance.

2.) Understand the five-step model of communication and how to develop it.

3.) Understand how practitioners and patients think and make decisions.

4.) Understand and give examples of direct and indirect approaches to communication.

5.) Understand and give examples of communication styles.

6.)Understand the importance of communication in the context of the biopsychosocial model of care.

 

Following completion of the lecture, you will be directed to 10 multiple choice questions. Upon successful completion of these questions you will be emailed a CPD certificate for 1 hour (or 1 point).

 

The lecture is presented by Patrick Partington

Pat Partington is a psychologist who has spent 25 years working in the field of exercise and rehabilitation from both the physical and psychological perspectives. He completed a PhD in the study of exercise adherence. In addition, he qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and hypnotherapy. He has combined his specialist training to improve patients’ mental wellbeing alongside their physical health.
