Chiropractic Examination & treatment of the Neonate

Learn hands-on skills for chiropractic examination and treatment of the neonate with Elisabeth Davidson Bsc(Chiro), DC, MSc(Paeds), FRCC (paeds).

The programme includes a theoretical part as well as practical workshops and case-based learning in neonatal musculoskeletal health.

The programme will cover history and physical examination, serious presentations, common MSK conditions, treatment options for MSK presentations including manual therapy, psychosocial considerations, and professional responsibilities.

Seminar Objectives:

To improve the skill of history taking and performing an appropriate physical examination of the neonate and infant.

• To recognise MSK issues in breastfeeding and generate differential diagnoses:
  For conditions which are within the chiropractic scope of practice, create a management plan, as well as implement safe and appropriate care.
• For conditions which are outside the chiropractic scope of practice and refer as appropriate.

To identify relevant safety and risk management procedures.

8:30 – 10:15          Neonatal Examination

10:15 – 10:30         Coffee break

10:30- 11:30          Common conditions seen in the infant incl Colic, Reflux, Plagiocephaly, the Irritable Infant, airway dysfunction, Torticollis.

11:30 – 12:30        Normal vs Abnormal (incl. dermatological findings)

12:30 – 13:30         Lunch

13:30 – 15:30         Practical session on corrective techniques and practical exercises for parents.

15:30 – 15:45          Coffee Break

15:45 – 16:00         Recent evidence on safety and forces used in infant spine.

16:00 – 18:00         Case studies and further practical session, Q&A
